strategic planning

We are confident that inclusive planning directions for our art community's "umbrella" will set a positive cooperative foundation for the growth of our organization and Arts and Culture as a whole in the Squamish region.

community forum

On June 01, SAC held a meeting with representatives from over 20 arts and culture groups with the aim of creating a policy that is reflective of and responsive to the community’s strengths and needs. This was the first time community arts and culture groups had met in such an inclusive forum. Feedback was extremely positive.

Some of the most significant priorities of the arts and culture community were identified as:

  • Circulation of information and community interconnections;
  • Assistance with Funding and promotions and co-ordination of local talent;
  • Partnering to improve cohesion and collaboration;
  • Oversee an event calendar and overall arts co-ordination;
  • Provide educational and other cultural opportunities to build our cultural economy, and
  • Develop a physical gathering space for the arts.

facilitated workshops and planning

Facilitator Catherine Rockandel is assisting SAC with comprehensive Strategic Planning for our arts community. Three arts community workshops were held between 2005/06. Upcoming Strategic Plan and recommendations will help determine a future plan for the Squamish Arts Council.

Interim objectives for the upcoming year include - To:

  • Clarify our roles and tasks as officers and directors;
  • Focus our role within the arts community with the development of an Arts Policy which responses to goals of the arts community;
  • Proactively assist other non-profit groups with grant applications;
  • Strengthen our partnership base within the arts community and along the Sea to Sky Corridor;
  • Represent our arts community at regional and provincial organized events;
  • Promote our own strengths and to increase our resource and knowledge base.
