Squamish Arts Council and the District of Squamish believe that Arts and Culture are an integral part of all aspects of community contributing to the liveability and quality of life. The SAC Public Art Committee is committed to raising the profile of Public Art in our community. With all new developments the District of Squamish Planning Staff and the Advisory Design Panel are consistently encouraging applicants to include Public Art elements in their project.
SAC Public Art Committee actions and plans include:
- SAC's Public Art Committee has been working with the District of Squamish to develop and implement a district art policy and program.
- $60,000.00 Public Art project within the landscape of Solterra Development Corp.'s new Rockcliff building (in progress).
- $50,000.00 Public Art project in partnership with the BC Museum of Mining for donor credit panel acknowledging sponsors of Windows On Howe Sound Project.
- Street Banner Design competition in partnership with Squamish Chamber of Commerce (in progress).
- Public Art project for Norm Rahkra Mountaineer Building, integrating Public Art into a mixed use development.
- Permanent Gallery space to be donated to SAC as Public Art contribution from Main and Third Street Development (in progress).
- Mapping project documenting existing public art in Squamish (in progress).
- Developing a Self Guided Public Art Walk (in progress).
- Creation of the Public Art Portfolio, a multifunctional resource manual containing images and information useful to artists, developers, students and the general public (in progress).
- Grant Application in partnership with School District 48 and SAC for a Public Art Project (in progress).
- Coordinating public art bequests and donations.
- Public Art to be included in new residential and commercial developments (Ongoing).
